Reports from the December 2000 grand opening of The Palm in Nashville said, It was one of the best parties Nashville has seen in more than eight years. The grand opening of the restaurant, located adjacent to the Hilton Suites in downtown Nashville and across the street from the Gaylord Entertainment Center, drew celebrities Denise and Alan Jackson, Titans players, NBA players, Senators, the Governor of Tennessee, the Mayor of Nashville, and many others. Since opening, guests like Robert Redford, James Gandolfini (Tony Soprano), Tim McGraw and Faith Hill have paid the Nashville Palm a visit.

Jonathon Scott, General Manager
Jonathon Scott thought he was destined to be a Pharmacist. That is, until the restaurant industry discovered him, and claimed him as its own. A 1994 graduate of Oklahoma State University, Tulsa-born Scott decided to take a year off in Ft Lauderdale, Florida, before hitting the books to earn his graduate degree in Pharmacology. To pay the rent and feed himself, Scott took a job at J. Alexander's, an upscale-casual dining concept with restaurants throughout the Southeast. Scott's strong work ethic and energetic, charming demeanor gained him the respect of his more seasoned counterparts, and caught the eye of the restaurant's manager, who offered him a managerial position only three months into the job. Scott demurred, explaining that he was going back to school to become a pharmacist in the fall, and was happy where he was. The manager persisted, however, and eventually made Scott an offer he couldn't refuse. Scott thrived as a manager, enjoying his autonomy to circulate amongst the guests and anticipate their every need. Like a rock star drinking in his first adrenaline-pumping round of applause, Scott was hooked. "I'd compare it to being at ground zero on the battlefield, says Scott, "Bullets flying everywhere and I'm the guy responsible for keeping everyone safe and alive - what a rush." Scott's star in the restaurant industry continued to rise when, six months later, he was tapped to become the restaurant's Sous Chef. A quick study, Scott assumed the role of Executive Chef six months later, heading up the kitchen for 2 1/2 years. While Scott learned invaluable lessons working as a chef he called himself the "Guru of Quality" because he would accept nothing but the best from the restaurant's food purveyors -- he missed the front of the house. He pleaded with his Manager to let him come back, and eventually Scott won out and was named Assistant GM. Having exhausted almost every position at J. Alexander's, Scott next turned his attention West, and in 2002 he landed the job of Wine & Beverage manager for The Palm's new Downtown Los Angeles location. Scott served as the restaurant's General Manager, and was the driving force behind its distinction as the epicenter of virtually all Downtown power circles. Today, we are proud to have Scott at the helm in our Nashville location.
